About Our Group

We are a group of 250+ concerned neighbours who support good development and are working to build a stronger, more inclusive and sustainable neighbourhood. We seek full replacement of affordable housing units (89) being lost in our community, we seek a plan which adheres to good planning principles. We have asked for a precinct plan for our neighbourhood, we have asked for a study.

We started as a few people connecting at a community meeting and turned into a working group of 5, a flyering group of  20, and a full group of 250. We aligned with other groups, and asked our elected officials for help. Chris Glover and Adam Vaughan were both incredibly helpful and listened to our concerns.  Joe Cressy was the opposite.  It's been heartbreaking

The applicant / developers and the City are pushing through a plan on the site of the Palace Arms which doesn't benefit our neighbourhood.  We asked the City to support a better project and its citizens.

We are seeing the City, the applicant and our own councillor Joe Cressy pushing a plan forward that does not adequately address the loss of affordable housing units,  and completely contradicts the city’s own standards and guidelines. We aren't asking to adhere to zoning from 1986, but we asked our Councillor and planning to consider that this zoning will impact our community for a hundred years to come.  We are seeing  our councillor and the City pledging approximately 6 -7 million dollars to these developers for the unacceptable affordable housing plan that they will tell you is amazing.  What could the city do with that amount of taxpayer money for affordable housing without the constraints of this developer's application?  We think it deserves a closer look not a rush forward.  Instead it's being rushed through, because the developer will pull affordable housing if it doesn't (according to Mr. Cressy - and his team- see supporting documents/activities to date)

We want and support reasonable development on this site - it's just not contained in this application.

We're a YIMBY! community and affordable housing matters here.  We deserve a study and a plan for our neighbourhood. Our neighbours deserve access to the same number of deeply affordable housing units as have existed on this site for over 50 years.  The community deserves better.  We need your support to help protect our amazing and unique community.
